Yes! It is what it sounds like. West coast rapper Snoop Dogg is proposing a new American Idol like talent show - Hood Idol, which is aiming to find new artists that wouldn't usually succeed on today's talent shows among all the pop and rock artists.
Snoop has said that it is necessary to showcase a show directed towards urban music in today's society.
The idea has been pitched to various networks including E! and MTV, but there has been no response and it is looking unlikely the show will air on such big networks, if any at all. The D-O-double G has apparently asked Jay Z to be one of the show's judges, but Jay has denied any involvement with the show.
If you ask me, today's TV needs a show like this. There are too many struggling urban artists out there, unnoticed and unloved, without proper representation, who deserve to make it big. BIG. It would be entertaining to see the kind of music we all know and love to be put out there, where we can see it.
I'll leave you with a picture of Snoop.
Peace and love,
Z. Malik

DMX
Earl Simmons, better known as DMX or Dark Man X was born on December 18th, 1970. The Yonkers native is mostly known for his best selling album ...And then there was X and for the raw, gruff style of his voice. He's sold over 30 million records worldwide and is hip-hop's only artist to have his first three albums enter the Billboard Top 200 Chart at the #1 spot, making him one of the best selling hip-hop artists of all time.
